Here are my twitter highlights from the first-ever Sydney Google Cloud Platform Meetup on the 3 December 2014. This meetup was hosted by Ed Knott (Sydney) and we have presentations by Win Woo (Sydney) and JJ Geewax (New York).

About Google Cloud Platform Meetup
Google's Cloud Platform Meetup is a great opportunity for Google engineers to share the latest about cloud technology. We will be talking about new approaches to computing that enable your apps to move beyond traditional divisions of PaaS and IaaS into new areas such as managed VM, auto-scaling, Docker, containers and Kubernetes. We will also show how we are building an awesome developer experience to make you more productive. Looking forward to see you there.

Live Developer Demo: Win Woo

  1. This was a very exciting part of the morning where Win Woo (@Cleffy) walks us through how to build the "Abelana" Mobile App in Google Cloud Platform. For those that are not familiar with the "Abelana" App, it was the app that was featured in the movie "The Internship" with Owen Wilson was brainstorming with the team to develope a killer app. The idea they came up with was a way to take photos of food and share it with friends. Win Woo, showed us how easy it was to build using Google Cloud Platform.
  2. WinWoo takes stage: live dev build of #Abelana in @googlecloud building app frm in movie #TheInternship pic.twitter.com/iXJEYoTdyDMark Vozzo@MarkVozzo·Tue, Dec 02 2014 23:53:22ReplyRetweetFavorite

Developer to Developer: JJ Geewax

  1. JJ takes the stage and talk more about his background (Started Invite Media) and how he ended up at Google via an acquisition. He was able to have a open and candid conversation and below is a great slide "What's difficult when building Apps".

  4. Firebase requires a change in mindset of the developer, but it did get a cheer from the audience... Firebase allows developers to build rich and responsive front-end experiences first, then build the heavy backend API later.
  5. If u r in #SoftwareDevelopment & abt to use @Firebase , read this "What do I need to do differently" /thx @jgeewax pic.twitter.com/Md3V4sViB5Mark Vozzo@MarkVozzo·Wed, Dec 03 2014 01:00:21ReplyRetweetFavorite
