The new EU-GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) Real Data Protection or a totalitarian Strike on the freedom of Opinion?

It is widely known that on May 25th 2018 the European Union’s new General Data Protection Regulation (short GDPR) is coming into force. What are the true intentions behind the new EU law? Is it really about more transparency for the citizens or are completely different goals being disguised in the flood of imprecisely formulated EU regulations?
