AirAsia’s Tony Fernandes openly supports BN, the Rakyat didn’t like it one bit. Tony has been cosying up to the Transport Minister, possibly with a view to write off AirAsia’s RM35 million debt to MAHB.

Tony Fernandes, just as in the case of Lee Chong Wei, Rafidah Aziz, or for that matter me and anyone in the market place, you are free to support anyone you care to. After all, we are supposed to be a democracy, doubtful as that may presently be. But when your stand is supported by dubious arguments that fly in the face of reality, be prepared for the long knives to be unsheathed. Yes, your airline is now a common part of our lives, Air Asia has landed in almost every Malaysian’s home, but we had always assumed that this was due to your business astuteness and innovative, pioneering spirit. However, it now appears that your 2-230 and 200k-89 million success is attributable more to political patronage than to your skills. If Najib’s philosophy was to put the country first and not give priority to Air Asia or Tony Fernandes personally, why did Rayani Air crash and Malaysian Airlines remain stalled on the runway? Again, it is your call if you wish to ignore Najib’s internationally recognised traits and you insist on seeing the glass quarter-full. But when this is accompanied with praises as unstinted as yours are, perhaps you are not quite the eagle soaring in the sky but a sparrow with feet planted firmly in the mud.
