There is nothing more frustrating than a low ping after a speed test, but delays in the game occur again and again, making playing the game an ordeal. Ping spikes are one of the players' biggest enemies, which is why we think: how do we keep ping constant in the game? What can we do to ease the network and take at least one step in the right direction?
Signals from Wi-Fi routers are exposed to many obstacles before reaching the PC and console. There are all kinds of items in the family that can interfere with the Wi-Fi signal. This includes walls and other signalling devices (4G phones and tablets). These obstacles limit the signal strength of the connection between the computer or host and the Wi-Fi router.
In addition, one of the basic features of Wi-Fi is that it allows multiple people or devices to connect. During ping, an advantage becomes a disadvantage because increased traffic leads to weaker connections. The cable Ethernet cable ensures a direct connection between the PC or host and the Internet modem. Direct connections are more stable and free from external interference, resulting in higher ping.
The biggest advantage of cable is not a ping reducer. When we log in to WLAN, we implement a lower value than the wired version. First of all, it's about consistency! Although my ping bounces back and forth like a kitchen scale, it remains the same on the Ethernet cable and allows a smooth gaming experience.
1. Internet / (local area network) cable used.
In today's modern and innovative world, cables seem to play a dwindling role. Every new device on the market includes a wireless connection in some way.

2. Select the nearest regional server.
One of the fastest ways to reduce ping is to choose a server near you. Servers closer to your territory have the lowest ping. When transferring data, it is clear that the longer the journey, the more time it takes to exchange the required data. Shortening the distance can also reduce packet loss that may occur during the game.
3. Turn off updates in the background.
Any form of download will affect your ping accordingly. Especially if you run other content on the same device in the background. Because of the nature of video games, updates occur frequently these days. It is so common that for a good game library, you always download one or two updates in the background. While it is important to update the host or PC regularly, you should do so outside of game time.
If you notice higher ping values, the first thing I need to do is check for updates in the background. It is easy for the console to disable these updates. You can find them on the notifications tab. By pressing An or X (depending on the console), you can pause it and finish it at other times.
4. Close other applications.
It is very easy to close the application on PC. You can open the Task Manager to view all applications running in the background. The task manager also displays the load of each process. Shutting down all background applications can work wonders at your ping level. In particular, applications that also use the Internet can have a significant impact.
Downloading client and seed applications consume the most bandwidth and should be given priority when deciding which application to close. When playing online on the console, music streaming should also be disabled to reduce ping.
5. Restrict Internet access to users.
Especially when the Internet line is weak, other users dialed in through WLAN or Ethernet cables mean an additional burden. If you feel it during the game ping, it helps to drive other users off the Internet in a short period of time. In the long run, this is not a solution, because you can't abandon your other users every time. However, in the short term, this can save your game!
