It was a little weird (actually infuriating) when one of the pro-transing the kids witnesses claimed that gender affirming care for minors was just about respecting them, and their pronouns, possibly their preferred names, how they wanna dress, etc -- and he does this while sitting in the same room with a young woman who had her breasts removed at the age of fifteen, and after a video was played of a surgeon (aka "child butcher) talking about how complicated it is to fashion a vagina from an undeveloped penis (namely, the surgery is either being performed on a minor, or on an adult who was prevented from going through puberty).
What's also repeatedly frustrating is that these mostly Democrats who are in favor of this butchery keep claiming that they're making the libertarian argument here. "Oh, suddenly these 'limited government' people want the government to step in the way of parents and doctors."
Well, this is the kind of argument that's made by people without a coherent worldview. These are the same people who wanna label parents who don't want their kids to be raped on public school campuses arrested and labeled as domestic terrorists.
Still, you'd be hard pressed to find anybody in any philosophy that would say that there's no scenario in which there should be intervention when it comes to what parents do with or to their kids.
If a parent took a young girl to a doctor seeking what is known world-wide as Female Genital Mutilation, I think every one of these people would think that the doctor should call CPS. It doesn't matter if the young girl herself says that she wants the procedure. Kids are impressionable. Is it possible that this kid was asked questions like, "Do you wanna be like mommy? while having no concept of the actual function of the parts that they're planning to remove?
This point can't be made enough -- are any of these people going to be consistent and say that the decision to tattoo a child's face should be based on the kid saying that he or she wants it, and the parent and the tattoo artist agreeing?
Examples abound in regard to unfit parenting that requires some kind of intervention.
If anybody on my side of this debate, who has a platform, were smart, these mostly Democrats would be twisting themselves until pretzels to try to make this argument work with their world-views.
