In doing my genealogy research I tend to amass a lot of files. I save everything!! Every little newspaper article, census report or snippet of information about my ancestors. I have been bad and not really diligent about keeping them organized like I should. I have literally thousands of files on my computer that are genealogy related. It will probably take me a month or more to get them all organized again. My desk top is a mess with the recent files I saved there, until I could get them into a proper folder.
I think it will take a month to get things organized again. I really hate it when I am bad and do not take the time to organize as I go. I have things saved in downloads, general photos, the desk top, and documents and none are organized any more. I also have several thumb drives full of genealogy files. I used to have everything organized wonderfully. Then I get on the hunt and start finding things and forget to put them in their proper place and this happens. My advice to you, take the time to organize!!
Create a Master file called File cabinet, sort by article, pictures, land, etc. As a professional genealogist for over 50 years the key is to at least keep it in a file cabinet. Saves your sanity and grey hair from trying to hunt across the entire computer ;-) Upvote, resteemit!

I am not sure how to create a "File Cabinet" but that sounds like an awesome idea.. When I worked at it professionally, my case files were immaculate, it just seems like my own are not so great, LOL.

I know the struggle! Every two months or so I have to organize again my files..

Oh my gosh yes!! I have found tons of stuff. I have written about a few things so far, check my blog. I will add more from time to time. I write mainly about 3 subjects, genealogy, my pottery and homesteading. Tomorrow I am going to write about canning beets, LOL
