Firebreathing dragons in Belgium

I live in Switzerland but originally I am from Gent in Belgium.

and every year in the 10 days around the 21st of July there is "de Gentse Feesten" . which is a little like the festival of Gent
But it is a bit more then that, there is street theatre everywhere, live bands, big parties, lots of beer, good vibes all around. The whole city centre is closed off and there are roughly 1.3 million people that visit over this period. Which is not bad for a city of 350k

This event is world famous (especially in Europe)

The first picture is an image of the famous towers of Gent. It is truly a medieval town that is worth a visit if you are ever in the region. The second is of the Graslei which is now the home of the Pole Pole latin festival

The previous 10 years I was only able to attend once due to work issues so now it was a good opportunity to go again and I met up with my best friends, we watched the football match of Belgium vs England (in the blazing sun with a few beers for refreshment of course)

after that we wandered around town, did some people watching, had a few more drinks and even got to see the fire breathing dragon
For the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the festival, the bronze dragon situated on the rooftop of the belfry and overlooking the medieval city, is spewing fire each evening at 23:30
It really makes for a spectacular sight. The Belfry is also one of the towers you can see in the first picture

This town really makes me proud to be from Gent and it is always a little bit like coming home when I am here.
