This old Timber framing house stands in the centre of Blaubeuren in Southern Germany. In this area such beautiful hand crafted buildings are no rarity. The so called Fachwerkhaus is build as post-and-beam construction, which has been used in different styles for thousands of years around the world. Such constructions are capable of bearing heavy weight without excessive use of interior space given over to vertical support posts. Everything is done without big machinery; only simple tools are used like broadaxes, adzes, draw knives or hand powered braces. Timbers joints are secured by large wooden pegs.
Have noticed the backets hanging on chains from the balkony? Yes they are there for getting some water up from the brook at the bottom of the building.
The beauty of such buildings lies in their uniqueness; no house is like the other. They are personalities like their inhabitants.
Thanks for reading. Have a beautiful day!
