Kiss Me First (TV show) - first impressions

in getyerlearnon •  7 years ago

I am staying at a friend's house who had a huge smart TV and Netflix. It is my understanding that most of the people in the world have Netflix now and I am one of the few people remaining on the planet that do not have it. I don't have anything against it and I am not one of those people that says that people shouldn't watch too much TV (obviously.)

We decided to watch a TV show that I had never heard of called "Kiss Me First" and this is what I think of it so far: I am not really enthusiastic about watching another episode but I will because I felt the same way after the first episode of Game of Thrones and now it is my favorite show of all time.

I was initially excited by the subject matter of an advanced online world in virtual reality and enjoyed the Avatar-style graphics that the online game has (in the show.)

The story follows Leila, a young teenager whose mother has recently died and she is undergoing a lot of personal issues, which is certainly understandable. She escapes into an online world where she can fly, and seems to forget the problems of her actual life (I think this is true for a lot of people that spend entirely too much time on social media or in playing MMO's.) She is a very timid person in real life but inside the game she gets to take on an entirely different personality. This also sounds very familiar to the way that a lot of people's behavior online.

She meets a group of mysterious people in the game who call themselves the "Red Pills" and they apparently have somehow hacked the game in some fashion that they will not tell a great deal about in the first episode of the series. However, it is evident they have powers inside the game that far surpasses the average user, especially their leader, Adrian.

She manages to meet one of the "Red Pills'" members in real life and this woman, seems to have very little difficulty in figuring out details of Leila's real life such as her address, where she works, or even her real life name. The girl's name is Tess and she lives a far more extroverted life than Leila does and Tess decides to befriend her and they have a great time together where Leila seems to forget her troubles for a little while.

Tess seems to be very interested in Leila in real life and also in the game, and not much else is explained about their relationship although Tess' motives do seem to be genuinely kind in their nature.

The show looks like it could go somewhere very interesting as it appears it is addressing real-life issues such as depression and how it is temporarily alleviated by being online. I for one, think that a lot of depression is actually caused by too much time online, and not enough off. That is an entirely different discussion though.

I say that I don't feel compelled to watch another episode because the first one moved very slowly and I felt bored on many occasions. I don't want to write this one off just yet and I will watch another one. I just don't think they did a very good job of roping us in right out of the gate if that makes sense.

If you are familiar with the show I would like to hear your thoughts but please try not to put spoilers on here if you can help it.

During the Summer (which it is here now), I lose touch with shows and TV in general. We have Netflix but rarely get on and stream anything until Winter depression sets in. So much going on right now.

How About You watch for a while and let me know in a few months if it's worth it..LOL! Haha. Looks interesting .. I always like the avatar based stuff. sub alter personalities and second lives. Usually a much more interesting life behind a character that sort of hyper emphasizes a few particularly unique traits of the "human". These shows always leave something for your imagination to fill in. That's why I always gravitate toward watching them.

;-)

I just watched the first episode of Kiss Me First and I'm already hooked. It's like Black Mirror but less about technology and more about the characters and their demons. No doubt people will make comparisons to Ready Player One which came out around the same time, but whilst Ready Player One (which I also enjoyed) was ultimately like one big sugar rush, Kiss Me First seems to be a much darker, deeper and intriguing ride. A prime example of good British TV that's original and grounded at the same time. I've never seen anything like it on TV, and I am really looking forward to the rest of the series and finding out what the hell is going on.

The TV show sounds great but we dont have that here so i will have to stream on to the internet for it. Becoz ima certainly gonna watch it. The story has impr3ssed me alot. Thsnks for sharing gooddream. Not mich to.say about it. But interesting.

Like the show because it sounds pretty cool to me. Leila has an exceptional character in terms show and the game too. Didn't understand much of it but the story and it's relation to our lives now a days is impressive so I will watch it. I also have no Netflix like ya. I mean we both are alienate. Just saying....

Nice post sir

I don't watch much TV either. Every now and then though you find something that is half decent though. I will have a look as I have never heard of this series. Still haven't watched Game of Thrones.

Hadn't watched it before @gooddream as I spend most of my time on crypto 😀😀. Beautiful story line and it's like I've gotta try watching it.
