The Other Guys (film): lots of laughs

When i watch this movie I can't help but imagine that Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg were just hanging out one day as pals and said to one another "lets make a movie about being cops!" Then they phoned up Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson and asked if they would like to be in the movie for 10 minutes.

Will Ferrell plays Alan Gamble, who is a forensic accountant for the NYC police department and for the most part he is a boring dude with a very regimented life. He gets partnered up with Terry Holtz (Mark Wahlberg) who is the opposite of Gamble, a bit of a loose cannon who is demoted to a desk job because he accidentally shot Derek Jeter (Jeter is a very-famous-in-America baseball player.)

Terry hates Alan because of his dedication to menial tasks, as do most of the other people in the office, including and especially the two top-cops in the office who are played by Sam Jackson and the Rock. A detective duo who meet their demise in a completely absurd situation that i will not spoil in case you haven't seen this (and you should see it.)

Despite his boring persona, Alan seems to have an inexplicable way with the ladies. it seems as though all hot women want him. This is evidenced in his incredibly beautiful wife that he completely takes for granted (played by the always lovely Eva Mendez,) as well as an ex girlfriend that they must interview and also pretty much anyone else that him and Terry encounter.

This is funny because Mark Wahlberg is obviously the more attractive and suave out of the two, yet none of his advances work. The scene with Christinith is just amazing and well, if you have seen the movie you already know what I am talking about.

Alan and Terry have to sort out their differences in order to bring down a crime syndicate and they eventually find out they are a great team. This comes as no surprise because well, it's a comedy police movie so obviously that is where the story was going to go. While this movie is predictable (which i hate in dramas) the situational comedy is just legendary. This, in my opinion, is one of Ferrell's best films and is something you should definitely watch.

Will and Mark teamed up in other movies in the future but in my mind this one is the best of the bunch.

This film is extraordinary, the exception that proves the rule that you have to create characters we care about, drama that moves us, action we believe.

Because unlike most buddy cop movies, even funny ones like Starsky and Hutch, they never even try to make us care about anything that happens.

That means that the movie starts off as a massive fail. So how does it succeed so hard?

Simply put, it's one of the funniest films ever made.

This is a movie where NOTHING is taken seriously. It is a playful movie, that makes every scene about joshing the audience's expectations.

The coolest human beings on earth, The Rock and Sam Jackson, are shown to be the shoutiest and the stupidest. The most boring, lame, tame, unmanly dork is a woman magnet. Cops who shoot sports stars and cops who shoot their firearms in police stations get minor reprimands. Police chiefs work second jobs at the local store, and only speak dialogue from female rnb song lyrics.

Character opposition is the bedrock of the central comedy duo. Mark Wahlberg is so macho, he just shouts in everyone's faces and gets instantly violent about everything, only to fail every time. Meanwhile, his pussy partner, who wouldn't say boo to a goose, is a golden goose of success at everything, everytime, especially with the ladies. This leads to a comedy duo with a macho-pussy-macho-pussy-wins dynamic that never fails to get a laugh. The feminine always destroys the masculine.

One joke above all others defines this dynamic: Wahlberg, the lion, versus Ferrell the tuna. Of course, not only does the lion dumbly leap into the sea where the tuna kills it, but the tuna also makes a breathing apparatus, to launch a land attack on the lion's family.

The more masculine you act in this movie, the harder you fall. The dynamic pursues not only the central double act, but every character in the movie, from The Rock and Sam Jackson, to the other cops, to the villains, where the psychopathically macho principal villain is ultimately no match for the slyly passive female villain.

This movie has more successful jokes per minute than almost any other movie, and it needs to, for look closely, and there's nothing else going on. :)

i want you to type the whispering battle that happens at the wake. "yes that is exactly what is happening!" awesome breakdown dude, i want to employ you. :P

That made me laugh. Thanks for the kind words. :)

Funny, relaxing film for family

Okay reading this post had me a nostalgic feelings since I watched the film in cinema together with my parents we back in 2010.

The movie isn't just funny but it has depth Just when we had think, "If you've seen one Will Ferrell movie, you've seen them all," think again. The Other Guy,Ferrell is back and totally redeems himself from the flop that was Land of the Lost by giving one of his most genius performances to date. It was beautifully acted that brings a lot of impact and laughter to the viewers of all ages.

The other guy, his parter Mark Wahlberg also delivers a superbly-angst-ridden-yet-hilariously-gut-ripping performance. The movie is filled with fresh, sarcastic, and humorous one-liners mind you👏

This is actually not the first time the two actors had a collaboration on screen and yet they deliver laugh-out-loud if ultimately disposable comedy with mixed and strong messages about arrested male development.

On the other side, however in my humble opinion it started strong but kinda dragging in middle to end part, The first few moments as we can see the premise is quite promising.

There were a lot of stupid dialogue that to my surprised was very funny and effective especially it worked for both the two actors Ferrell and Walberg.

Overall although the story is partially let down by the slightly strenuous plot and debatable and conclusive intent, the Other Guy is still a great film to watch especially when are tired and bored. Definitely a stress reliever film 7.5/10.

In every movie there should be funny scene for being intrested

OK first off I will say that the story was just OK. But that usually happens in comedies. So you have to rely more on the film trying to make the viewer laugh. If you are a fan of Will Ferrell's comedy and Mark Wahlberg, then you will pretty much laugh throughout the film. Ferrell really gets to act like himself in this film. I mean he is playing a character, but he gets to use his typical humor. Wahlberg plays a really angry cop and some of the things that come out of his mouth will really get you laughing. I actually laughed more at Wahlberg than Ferrell. Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson are in the film a bit as the head cops; like a newer Starsky and Hutch. They were entertaining. Eva Mendes plays Ferrell's wife and she is actually entertaining. Then the chief of the police station is played by Michael Keaton. Throughout the movie he kept quoting from the group TLC. He was actually also pretty funny. You will find yourself laughing a lot throughout the film. But there are some parts where they do try to be serious and most of the time it can be a turn off in a good comedy. There are some great one liners and scenes that will stick in your mind. So a pretty good comedy and I will end by saying, I want to see Mark Mahlberg do more comedic roles, because he is pretty good in them.

That's what happens when a person loves his job. I'm talking about McKay. I'm not very familiar with his work, but after watching this film, I remained extremely high opinion of him. Only by loving your work, you can invite to the episodic roles of two stars of the first magnitude and smear them on the asphalt!
Further, I never imagined Mark Wahlberg with Will Ferrell in one film. You have to be a genius to represent them together!
I'm generally a big admirer of Wahlberg (although he also has unsuccessful films, so in this sense I'm not being preconceived), I will now explain why. The fact is that he is not visible on the screen as an actor. Watching the film with his participation, we do not see the actor in the frame, we see the image he created. Ask any person who likes to watch movies, but does not like them, who is Mark Wahlberg? Nobody will answer. Everyone knows Bruce Willis, Stallone, even Jim Carrey, but an uninformed viewer will be very surprised to learn that this foolish cop played both the "Planet of the Apes" and "The Italian Job" (films that everyone saw).
Ferrell on the contrary, they know everything, maybe not by name, but when they see him the majority will exclaim: "Ah, that idiot!" Yes, Ferrell does not like. But, paradoxically, they continue to watch his films. The thing is that Ferrell jokes like we think - vulgar, sometimes not funny, in a black, but always with all the heart, childlike. Not everyone is ready to admit to this even to himself, not to those around him. Nevertheless, in each of us there is a piece of Will Ferrell and it is she who pulls us to him.
Two such opposites joined together created an amazing movie. It can be differently called up, to the smallest detail, what exactly in this film did not like, because not like in this film can only some small things, but sooner or later seeing this film the hand itself will be drawn to the button the play and you will sit down to look this movie ... again.

That's is my most favorite movie so funny..

There should be always a little bit fun in every movie. A rest of the people like funny movies. This one is also a great movie. I suggest you to watch it if you did not watch it yet.
