Failure to Launch

There are a lot of links in this post. I am not gaining anything form linking except to share things that I love with you.

I would be remiss, in all this talk about goals, if I did not address failing at meeting your goals. It may surprise you to think about there being value in failing in your goals.

J.K. Rowling, the author of one of the most incredible book series of all time, has shared that if she did not fail at getting a job that would get her “a key to an executive bathroom” she would never have written the Harry Potter series. What a spectacular, and wonderful, failure on her part!

There are times failing is just pointing us in a better direction in a really big way. Maybe you would hate every day of your life as an executive and you are being your best self as an author.

There are times failing is pointing you toward a better direction in a smaller way. Maybe your goal is S.M.A.R.T but you need to mobilize your support system to do it. Or maybe you succeed in your goals if you write them down, some of us are tactile in that way.

I know there are often times when it doesn’t feel like failure can actually be your greatest triumph, but it really can be. For those times, mobilize your support system to give you the boost you need to keep going.

Mobilizing your support system is much more important that a lot of people realize. There's a saying, "If you're not for me, then you're against me." In this age, that is so true. We need to remember that we can lift people up without tearing others down.

Exactly! In the podcast I linked to, one of the hosts talked about all the steps she needs to take to make sure she actually sets up and goes to dentist appointments. It might seem silly, but sometimes we need to tell our friends "Hey, could you please call me on Friday to make sure I set up that dentist appointment?"
