2018 Goals

2017 was a fantastic year. I bought a house. I got raises at work. My net worth increased by more than $33,000. Got a new (to me) car. Further strengthened my relationships with friends, girlfriend, and family.

For 2018, I want to start accelerating. I want $20,000 in invested assets (RRSP and TFSA), as well as pay off my $9,000 debt.
I also want to develop a passive source of income, TBD.

I would like to get a second job that pays me the handsome minimum wage offered by my province. Unfortunately, that is probably going to be the hardest thing to do. Why is it politicians make decisions that affect the free market and put squeezes on the actual job creators of an economy? If government legislates a +33% increase in minimum wage, than job creators have even more incentive to look into automated technologies or just plain lay off employees. You get paid what you're worth, and minimum wage is not supposed to "be a wage that can support a family". Minimum wage is for students and secondary income earners, and nobody expects to be at a minimum-wage job for very long if they want to move up in the world.

Yesterday, I made a short swing trade on WEED.TO, buying and selling after a couple of hours. It netted me around 5% total after fees, and it was because I looked into the 17% dip the day before. Essentially, AG Sessions said that cannabis is still illegal federally, and prosecutions will continue. So naturally, the entire sector takes a big smack down. Including Canopy Growth, which has no US operations at all. So I took a little gamble and sold my TFSA holdings for a short term speculatory play. It worked. I have also done this in the past with specific companies who just had a huge stock drop due to news. I always ride the dip buyers. It doesn't happen too often (re. Once a year), so I'm not going to count on it as a steady source of income.

So after yesterday, I'm up around 375$ in TFSA, and I earned another 130$ delivery driving. I hope to get at least 220$ from delivery driving, and another 100$ on Sunday. It'll be a busy but productive weekend.
