God corrects: Again and again the LORD has sent you his servants, the prophets, but you have not listened or even paid attention. Jeremiah 25:4

Jeremiah was a prophet after Isaiah, almost a century after him, and it fell to him to witness the destruction of the city of Jerusalem and the kingdom of Judah at the hands of Nebuchadnezzar, tyrant of the Babylonian empire. And like every prophet, God established him as a spiritual sentinel of his people: "I have made you a tester of metals and my people the ore, that you may observe and test their ways" Jeremiah 6:27. But in the face of this Jeremiah found himself with a people who did not want to hear hard truths but rather beautiful lies.
Jeremiah, as a man devoted to the Lord, denounced the sins of the people, the covenant with the Lord had been broken, the inhabitants of the Kingdom of Judah had given themselves over to idolatry in all its forms, the false idols and the love for money: "From the least to the greatest, all are greedy for gain; prophets and priests alike, all practice deceit" Jeremiah 6:13.
And so were the words of the prophet Jeremiah about the sins of Judah:
"Judah's sin is engraved with an iron tool,
inscribed with a flint point,
on the tablets of their hearts
and on the horns of their altars.
Even their children remember
their altars and Asherah poles
beside the spreading trees
and on the high hills" Jeremiah 17:1-2.
But the prophet also taught us that God corrects men, as a reminder of Psalm 1, the Psalm of the two ways, Jeremiah affirmed:
"Stand at the crossroads and look;
ask for the ancient paths,
ask where the good way is, and walk in it,
and you will find rest for your souls" Jeremiah 6:16.
And on this God is insistent, said Jeremiah, because God sends his prophets:
"Again and again the LORD has sent you his servants, the prophets, but you have not listened or even paid attention. They said, ´Turn now, each of you, from your evil ways and your evil practices, and you can stay in the land the LORD gave to you and your ancestors for ever and ever. Do not follow other gods to serve and worship them" Jeremiah 25:4-6.
