The promise of God: The children of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will dwell there. Psalm 69:36

Psalm 69 is a plea for God's help, against the contempt of those who do not believe in the Lord. In a world where the only thing that is valued is power and money, it is logical that those who seek God in their hearts suffer the contempt and oppression of society, as the Psalmist reveals with his prayer. And about this, the teachers of wisdom in the Bible added: "My child, when you come to serve the LORD, prepare yourself for trials" Ben Sira 2:1.
It is very likely that this Psalm is related to the life of Nehemiah, an official of the Persian empire appointed by the king of kings Artaxerxes, because the composition of this Psalm was after the exile from Babylon and most likely during the reconstruction of the Second Temple in Jerusalem.
Nehemiah during the reconstruction of the city of Jerusalem, which was in ruins, had to face numerous enemies that attempted against his life, the Psalm describes Nehemiah's concern for the mercy (compassion, kindness, gentleness) and the love (Agape) of the God of Israel, the wise Lord does not forget those who serve him and fear him with their hearts:
"Answer me, LORD, out of the goodness of your love;
in your great mercy turn to me.
Do not hide your face from your servant;
answer me quickly, for I am in trouble.
Come near and rescue me;
deliver me because of my foes" Psalm 69:16-18.
Because God in his wisdom is against oppression, humbles the powerful, and exalts the humble:
"The LORD hears the needy
and does not despise his captive people" Psalm 69:33.
The Psalm reminds also to us of the promise made by God to Abraham, of a numerous offspring and a holy people, a people who, due to their devotion, should inherit the land again and rebuild what was lost:
"For God will save Zion
and rebuild the cities of Judah.
Then people will settle there and possess it;
the children of his servants will inherit it,
and those who love his name will dwell there" Psalm 69:35-36.
