Mississippi River in New Orleans reaches Phase II flood fight (but that's not as alarming as it sounds)

However, river water leaks through the wooden slats in the 360 bays of the Bonnet Carre Spillway when the river reaches reach about 12.5 feet at New Orleans. That means that as of Monday morning, 4,800 cubic feet per second of water — less than 1% of the river's overall volume — was pouring into the spillway and then into Lake Pontchartrain.

Interesting article about the height of the Mississippi River and where that height might be going from here. I'm one that believes part of the Mississippi River should be diverted into Lake Pontchartrain anyway, the cypress trees along its shoreline need the fresh water to thrive. Part of the River was moving through the Lake hundreds of years ago, no doubt, and wildlife thrived. I know it's not going to happen, but it'd be nice if it did.....
