The General at Golden Corall

Boy bands did not do for rhythm and blues what hair bands did for rock.

My wife sang for New Kids on the Block with her borrowed choir robe and her $100 bill. We never saw the svengali behind the scenes at the dome in Saint Petersburg with the funny roof. Every boy band wanted a choir at that time.

Fast forward fifteen years. My wife, first daughter and myself took in a meal off 985 in Sugar Hill at the above mentioned restaurant. Who would be standing by the fried chicken by the chicken livers? I recognized him as "the General," even though I did not know his name. I asked him if my wife could sing for him; he said, right there with a plate of food in his hand.

She had the words, "What can be said/for the woman who fed/her child by the mouth of the Nile?" My wife sang her butt off in church all the time, but this time she was coy and would not sing. I'm done. That's why I write. I can't sing the song I want to sing out of her vocal chords.
