I snapped this shot from the side of hwy. 20 just west of Sisters Oregon about three weekends ago on one of my fishing trips to the Metolious river in the central Oregon cascade range. Black butte is an old cinder cone volcano that is just another link in the long chain of volcanoes making up the cascade range running from Canada down to southern Oregon. This chain of volcanoes is cause by ongoing sub-duction of the Pacific plate underneath the North American plate. Professional geologist amateur photographer lol. I took this photo with my Nikon D3200 with an AF-S 18-35 mm lens. Hope you enjoy the picture and a blast of the geologic history of the pacific northwest.
