Introduction
To those who don't know, Golem is a startup that uses the Ethereum network for payments to access a decentralized supercomputer. The whole idea is that anyone can make money through renting out computing power in exchange for Golem tokens (GNT). Outside of the renting of computing power Golem has a multitude of use-cases. Currently the team is preparing for the Brass Golem release which they plan on releasing some time in Q2 of 2017 which ends on June 30th.
Alpha Testnet
There is an alpha testnet for the project that is available to testers which you can learn more about here.
Recent speculation on being added to Coinbase
There have recently been rumors that Golem tokens (GNT) will be added to Coinbase. You can view more details about that here. You can also view more details on this on this Reddit thread.
Why I believe Golem will be game changing
Golem will make vast computing power easily accessible to people whom did not have that utility before. One of the use cases I am excited about is using Golem for cryptocurrency mining pools. If successful this could be a cheaper option than perhaps running your own mining rig in the future.
We are definitely living in exciting times for cryptocurrency in general. Hopefully in the future technologies such as Golem will gain more widespread exposure in established society as well.

Gridcoin is not commercial people are volunteering computing power whereas Golem is commercial think of it as Airbnb for computers
