I'm seeing my job opening in my community - no one played at open mic

In the years from around 2005 - 2010 I went to as many open mic nights as I could. I didn't know many cover songs and only had a few of my own but wanted to get out and practice my skill. Perhaps jam with others and learn something new. The one I went to most was a small coffee shop in a small town. None of my friends went there to see play even though we played together on weekend nights. They didn't even show up to see me play. They all started their own bands. The coffee shop vibe was something different and special. There was no alcohol, late nights and drugs. It was a fresh scene with local talents. You'd be surprised how much hidden talent is in a small town! The vibe was open and folky for the most part. I was a variety show aspect there. Doing odd guitar and lyrics and dancing to songs.

So yeah now that's it getting closer to halloween I'm remembering the experimental musics I played for the local music pub. Even the cooks came out from the kitchen to see what kinds of sounds were going on! My friend from high school came down and helped me there last year. He plays drums so I took up the guitar. I had been playing drums for my other young guitarist friend so It was a nice change up.

Now I'm on solo mode where I gotta write some tracks, guitar riffs and lyrics and do a one man show! My plan is to play all ages shows. For me open mic is practice time. I do have an improvisational aspect to my performance so I will work my way to get payed for practicing! :)

Back around 2006-2007 there was some interesting older guys playing at a local bar in town. The guitarist was pretty good, played allot of blues and rock and roll and the drummer was in his 60's. He was a jazz drummer. I did bring out the bass guitar and jammed with them a few times and it was allot of fun! In the late 90's I did play bass for an alternative band for awhile.

Looking at my own history and feeling the present, the art will come through with more ease. Can't wait to hear what I come up with next.
