For years, iPhone and Android users have struggled to overcome the iMessage barrier. Every iPhone user has experienced the frustration of seeing a text turn green instead of blue, and every Android user has felt like the odd man out in a group chat.
With the launch of Tapback a few years ago, Apple significantly increased the gap. When you press and hold on a message, a series of emoji reactions will appear over the text. These reactions, unfortunately, only worked from one iPhone to the next. They would appear as a distinct text on an Android device, indicating whether the user liked or laughed at a message.
The inability of Android to accept Tapback responses soon became a meme. When iPhone users attempted to use the feature in a group conversation, no one with an Android phone was spared mockery. Thankfully, Google's Messages app is finally receiving an update to address this issue.
