Aleksa's Book Review: The Enterprise of Law

in government •  6 years ago

Once in a blue moon, I read a book that does everything I ask of it. Adjudication, beat patrol, legislation, and quality assurance are all touched on in just the right amount of detail in this seminal tome. The book explains why private justice solutions are a substitute, and not a compliment to existing tax-funded systems.

Plenty of examples are given of private solutions crowding out the government law enforcement branch, which in turn gets regulated and taxed out of existence. Singapore, Switzerland, Hong Kong and others have had this happen, and certain patterns reveal themselves, revealing gaps in the armour of the powers-that-be.

In closing, I cannot recommend the book enough. It's likely that you've already read this, but give it another go. The book contained enough practical and theoretical insight for me that I absolutely must award it the title of BANGER OF THE WEEK.
