Man Camps Cause RAPE.

Man Camps Cause Crime, it’s not speculation. There have been multiple studies and reports which have demonstrated clearly that crimes increase, and people are endangered by the presence of pipeliners.

While it’s true that the pipeliners are not ALL criminals, it is also true that the regions where these ‘roustabouts’ and ‘roughnecks’ live and work tend to suffer as a result of their presence.
One of the common crimes caused by man camps is drunk-driving, another is drug-trafficking; however those two crimes are not nearly as harmful to the communities exposed to this criminal element as the crimes of rape, and human trafficking.

The people who take these pipeline jobs come from all across the country, often leaving their families and friends to join a transient neighborhood which will vanish when the project is complete, leaving behind a trail of trash, sewage, and rape victims.
There is NO DOUBT that the man camps bring rapists into their protection, the fact that man camps are in essence gated neighborhoods, or private campgrounds means that they are not patrolled by law enforcement, for the most part police are unable to gain access to man camps, allowing for men, women and children to be traded from camper to camper, trailer to trailer, or even being stabled where pipeliners can fuck them for a price.

Pipeliners earn big money, and their work days are long, resulting in little time to build meaningful relationships outside of their man camps. This combination of a lot of money, and little spare time results in human trafficking, kidnapping, and rape. Man camps are predominantly white. There are very few people of color engaged in pipeliner labor, and the same holds true with women, and so as the majority of pipeliners are dominantly white men, in court this results in very few convictions, or kid gloves where sentencing is involved.

In one report there was an increase of 75% in men being raped when a man camp came to the area, another report shows that overall rape incidents increased by 17%, bear in mind that rape conviction numbers is what is used in the reports, and that many victims fear coming forward, or are killed before they could make such an allegation. Because the “rigger culture” is by and large white men who have left their homes to join a work camp, they tend to see the local people as being “other” than their type, especially Indigenous women who are abducted and kept as sex slaves inside of man camps.

Judges, law enforcement and prosecutors are often complicit in hiding crimes committed inside of man camps, with good reason - money. Pipeline companies are aware of the dangers their projects force onto the communities they target, they know that the communities will suffer the presence of man camps, and in an effort to show good will, the oil industry dumps money on local law enforcement, creating a conflict of interest where prosecuting riggers, roughnecks and roustabouts is involved, causing law enforcement to turn a blind eye.

There is no doubt that pipeline companies endanger communities by putting in man camps. It’s not even a question of whether more women be raped when there are man camps around. The question as I see it, is: How long will we allow these dangerous individuals to be harbored within marginalized communities? And: How many people have to be raped and murdered before these bastions of sexual predators are banned?
