Fellow street-art-lovers,
I have been posting Street Art I saw on my last trip to Mexico during the last days, but today I am posting my last one! Nevertheless, I left my favorite one for last. I loved how some graffiti I saw had so much of the culture in them. On the picture, you can see a Graffiti of a skeleton clearly disguised as an Aztec warrior, but I find it specially interesting for two reasons.
First, it is not an actual person, it is a skeleton. This skeleton is different from the rest, though. It is clearly very much alive, and threatening. It could be Death itself dressed up as an Aztec warrior, or it could actually be an Aztec warrior coming back to claim what is his.
Second, I have never heard of an Aztec warrior wearing that kind of "suit". I have heard of eagle and jaguar warrior, but this skeleton almost seems to be wearing Quetzalcoatl, the deity. Quetzalcoatl in Nahuatl means "feathered serpent". He was the god of wind and wisdom. So the second interpretation could be that a war among gods happened, with the god of death rising victorious, and wearing the skin of his enemies as his armor. It was said that the god of death, Mictlantecuhtli, was the most prominent of them all and that he practiced cannibalism.
Below you can see pictures of an eagle, and jaguar warrior as well as a picture of Quetzalcoatl, as reference.
