1831: Greece’s first banknotes are printed in Nafplio.

1900: The central streets of Athens are illuminated with gas lights.

1917: Greece officially enters World War I. The Venizelos Government declares Greece in a state of war, and on the side of the Allies.

2012: National elections take place. New Democracy wins, they don’t win enough seats to form a government alone. They go on to form a coalition government with PASOK and DIMAR. Antonis Samaras will become Prime Minister.
