Giannoulis Halepas was one of the best marble sculptors

He was born in Tinos on 14/8/1851. when he was young, he liked very much the sculpture.

After studying sculpture, he opened in Athens his own sculpture workshop.

He made many well-known work of arts. Many of his works have been destroyed by him when he got a nervous breakdown

The nervous breakdown had been caused by an erotic disappointment, uninterrupted work.

Ηis family was closed him to a psychiatric hospital in Corfu where he had too difficult times .

When his father died, his mother took him from the psychiatric hospital and they returned to Tinos and his mother never let him to work with sculpture

When his mother died, he began to work again with sculpture.. he made many sculptures until he died on 15/9/1938 ...

His home in Tinos has become one of the most important museums of Greek art

It is a sad fact that the gift of creativity often makes people too sensitive and it destroys them.

I met an artist in Athens, also deeply unhappy. His apartment on the leoforos from Syntagma to Hilton, below Kolonaki Square. He had a number of apartments in the building (I think all of it used to belong to his family).

His apartment had been full of works of art and antique furniture, but he allowed apentarous gyftous na meinoun mes'sto spiti tou kai ta spagane kai ta kaigane gia zestasia. I never went back, it upset me too much (I put him into the story of Cherine).

The one work you show, Halepa's Sleep, it really is marvellous.

Another point you mention is typical of how many artists react to their unhappiness - they destroy their own work. I also did it, I burnt hundreds of my poems and stopped writing for many years. I'd say writing about Cherine helped free me again - but not for posting on Steemit. If it was without money (steemit) I might keep posting poems, but when I write one, it is like a baby to me, for I reach into myself, sometimes releasing emotions which are not pleasant, but then people do not even bother to open the post and most who upvote do not read it - to na kano post ta poiimata mou einai san na prodido tin psyhi mou.
