The apostle James in his epistle speaks of the problem of oppression and its most direct cause, the sin of greed. Wanting to selfishly accumulate more and more money without taking into account the situation of our neighbor. According to the Bible, this sin has its origin in concupiscence, which entered the world through original sin.
Greed inevitably leads us down the path of error, and as a consequence to a path of uncertain results. Because the person who sins is, in a metaphorical sense, a slave to what dominates his mind: "The one who loves money will never be satisfied with money, he who loves wealth will never be satisfied with his income" Ecclesiastes 5:10.
That is why the apostle James taught us that the Kingdom of God opposes oppression and all forms of sin, the Kingdom of God is first of all directed to the most humble: "Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?" James 2:5.
Riches are not in themselves bad, but greed, pride, and intense selfishness are, that is the reason of why the apostle James requested the rich not to put their trust in riches but in God, man must first of all humble himself before the mercy of God, and avoid the pride that condemns, as all the prophets have taught throughout the history of the people of Israel:
"Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty" James 5:1-4.
