At one point Hal Jordan was taken over by Parallax, one of his most famous enemies, and he almost wiped out the Guardians of the Universe, a race born and raised in the planet Maltus and whom are believed to be the first intelligent species in the universe. They evolved so far and wide that they became incredibly powerful, intelligent, with godlike powers. They were scientists and thinkers and some were able to control time and space.
