Howdy Steemians and all gardening enthusiast!
In a much particular way, I would like to make some simple justification in posting my ever first entry in the #greenestthumb contest by @cryptofarmer, for I may have some minor flaws in this entry, I must say I will try my best to do it the greenest way possible. So please bear with me as I go along my short factual discussion.
As a new steemit member and don’t have the idea what to do with the new platform, a couple of days after my account was activated and I was about being in the state of getting lost here in Steemit; nevertheless, I magically bump into the healthiest contest of @cryptofarmer and there I saw the one thing I love the most and it’s GARDENING! For a couple of months now I was venerating for some special facts about gardening and until then I made a rooftop version of a home garden.
I decided to make a rooftop version because I don’t have a big space for planting in my house and by the time I got married and my first born started eating solid last 2015, was then the time a big hit on my head rings like a bell! And it was the greenest thought of making a garden on my own and serving the healthiest food to my family. And when talking about how I planted my healthy goodies in the rooftop; well, I just ventured a very resourceful idea from my hypothalamus and it’s the term of using RECYCLED CONTAINERS as a substitute for soil beds.
In my rooftop garden, I have lots of plants, different kinds, like ornamental plants, pine tree; succulent collection and the most significant genre are the VEGETABLES!! But one thing I would like to showcase to you guys is my mint collection!
Yes! You heard it right! I am collecting mints and planted them in recycled water containers. At first, I just started planting a small mint on a small pot through a gift from a friend. By the time my friend handed me the mint I was so ecstatic and can’t wait to transfer the precious one into a bigger container so I can replant more and more mint! And now I think I got almost 15 pots of mint in my rooftop garden! Not to mention the other mints I gave to my friends and relatives as a healthy gift.
I choose to collect mints not only because I love soaking them in my cup of tea and pitcher of juice, I choose to collect mints not only to give them as a gift to my loved ones, I choose collecting mints because it has healing power in every leaves it grows and in every root it runs through. Moreover, many people may think that mint is just a flavoring additive in our candies, powder juice, toothpaste and etc; nevertheless, they don’t know the ‘chain-like’ benefits of mint in our body system.
I got here some tantalizing list of reasons why you need to be more amazed and get jealous in my mint collection.
Health Benefits Of Mint Leaves
- Boost Digestion. Like I said, one of the main mint health benefits is that it aids digestion and helps to remove stomach pains. Mint is a great appetizer, and due to its soft aroma, it soothes the stomach. The aroma triggers the mouth to produce more saliva and more digestive enzymes. As you can imagine, this aids digestion tremendously.
- Strengthen Your Liver. When your liver is chugging along slowly, you’re going to be feeling pretty dismal. A poorly functioning liver is an energy sap. Thankfully, one of the great mint nutritional benefits is that it is a powerful liver booster. The health benefits of beetroot are also fantastic for the liver.
- Cool Your Body. You know that song – “Rock Your Body”? Well, if you listen carefully to mint leaves, you’ll hear them singing “Cool Your Body”… In all seriousness, mint is a cooling herb. Consuming mint causes your body to slightly lower its temperature. This is one reason that Mint goes great in fruity, summery drinks (like the juicer recipes I describe below!). It is also perfect for tea when you have a sore throat!
- Relieve Asthma. Many people have found that consuming mint produces real relief for asthma symptoms. Scientists believe that regular use of mint is super beneficial for asthma patients. It is a great relaxant and relieves congestion (unblocks your nose, remember?). Not too mention the high antioxidant levels and its anti-inflammatory properties. However, don’t go too crazy as too much mint may cause irritation.
- Take Care Of Your Teeth. Why do you think toothpaste is minty? It’s because one of the health benefits of mint leaves is that they are good for dental hygiene. First, mint freshens up your breath. A great trait, especially if you have just eaten a big plate of garlic. Mint also packs a load of germ defense. Mint inhibits the growth of bacteria in the mouth and cleans the teeth and tongue.
- Stop Farting. I know it’s an embarrassing subject, but hey, we all do it from time to time. One of the refreshing mint nutritional benefits is that it will help us stop farting. Since it eases digestion, by encouraging the stomach to produce more bile, the body makes less gas. The benefits of lemon juice are also something that helps with this issue. There is also a theory that it helps lower cholesterol levels.
- Eliminate Mucus. Mint is an Expectorant. Mint encourages the body to eliminate mucus from the airways, lungs, bronchi and trachea. It promotes the drainage of mucus from the lungs.
- Defeat Cancer. Like all nutritious plant food, mint is believed to have strong cancer-fighting powers. This health benefit of mint leaves is probably due to the variety of enzymes that mint contains. Pretty impressive, huh!
- Kick Acne’s Ass. Mint juice is great if you’re juicing for acne. Why? It cleans the skin like it’s a jewel. It’s beat infection, soothes the skin and it works like magic when it comes to removing pimples. It’s also powerful in reducing wrinkles. If you want to look younger for longer, rub mint juice into your skin once or twice a day.
- Tasty Treat. There is no denying that mint tastes great. While not specifically one of the health benefits of mint leaves, whether you use it in food, juice, toothpaste or something else, mint is pleasant to the taste buds.
- Preventing Irritated Nipples while Breast Feeding. Studies published in the International Breast Feeding Journal have shown that consuming water that contained peppermint helped prevent cracking nipples. In fact, the study reported, “Women who were randomized to receive peppermint water were less likely to experience nipple and areola cracks compared to women using EBM.”
- A cure for IBS? As we talked about above the little leaf is great for digestion, but recent studies have shown that mint can be effective for helping to treat Irritable Bowl Syndrome. The research was very promising and did better than many of the modern drugs that patients were taking at the time.

as for me i think it acts as a food supplement action though because it cannot relieve or treat the disease directly. but you can use mint for a healthy lifestyle and disease free body :)

This is how we are currently gardening as well. We are using used milk jugs as our containers. And I just found mint growing wild in our neighborhood today so I transplanted some! Hopefully it will take off nicely! :)
