Greig Fraser is an interesting cinematographer.

His biggest, recent movies are Rogue One, Dune, and The Batman. He also shot smaller films like Killing Them Softly and Lion.

The most interesting innovation in his work, so far as I can tell, started with Rogue One.

Fraser seems to be a bit of a film over digital guy; but, he's mostly been shooting digital because that's how things are going.

His greatest innovation, to my mind, is that he's originating his images with digital cameras while actually creating film prints with a traditional silver retention process to create a more analog look and then scanning those prints for digital presentation.

Clearly this method is working because his movies are fucking gorgeous. Still, are they actually saving any money by going through this process rather than just shooting on film?

I'm guessing that the answer is "It depends."
