"Why not invest in real estate investment trusts(REITs)?" A friend once asked me, and I stopped for 2 seconds and thought to myself "really,why not"?I tried gathering up the problems I seem to have with the industry and I gave him my list, it went like this,
I wouldn't want to invest in real estate investment trusts in my country because the market isn't really good and getting involved in REITs in foreign lands involves or whole lot of processes,financial and legal issues that ranges from high income tax to having to own properties in partnership with a local entity, having to go through the process of currency exchange from my country's local currency to the country's local currency which I want to invest in and this has a lot of costs and the time involved in getting all this processes done is of great concern and the fact that REITs dividends are often paid out half yearly or yearly and that I needed a constant flow of monthly dividends and most importantly I am Muslim and most income of REITs are gotten through rent acquired from its own assets portfolio and interests earned by financing real estate assets.
My friend patiently listened to me and after I finished he smiled and told me that he asked me because he shared some of my concerns and has found a way out of this problems that ensures we still have an opportunity to invest in REITs, he told me about the Global REITs platform and now I can also tell you about it.
