I personally don't like that form of speech...but the entire idea of free speech is that people are allowed to say whatever the hell they want, even if you don't like it. These huge companies censoring the content on their platforms without warning or trial is a HUGE problem. We've seen it on tons of platforms. Just recently we saw in on YouTube, and they even got sued for it, because freedom of speech is more than just not passing any laws to squash it. Some people use harsh language that these platforms might not like, even if their politics aren't even aligned with the politics of those they vilify them as.

There are of course forms of speech that might not necessarily be protected, depending on the government, such as propaganda. These platforms are judged based on their content. They make rules to effect that. Considering that, perhaps they should be allowed to police their platforms in certain ways...but when they do it without warning, and you have to appeal the decision, often in such a way that makes it feel as if there's no hope, that's a problem.

YouTube, Patreon, Amazon, Google, etc, etc, etc, they all act with impunity. They act like dictators in their little walled gardens. A content creator just trying to use these platforms to make money can see their primary source of income disappear overnight. The fascists and white supremacists and potty mouths aren't the canaries in the coal mine, they're just some of the many that have been silenced. Imagine if some comment you made on social media blew up overnight and your entire economic future was ruined overnight because it was taken out of context or you were in a bad place emotionally or whatever. Your entire life ruined by one comment. This has been the reality for many people. Today, one wrong thing said can ruin everything. That's a severe problem.

There's no trials. Not even mock trials. They don't alert you as to why you've been put under review. They only tell you after they shut down your account, and then they don't even give you a real reason. They can't even bother to pay someone to write out why you were banned. Your life just changes in an instant, and your only possible recourse is to appeal the decision, and possibly even sue them.

Good on anyone making competing platforms, even if greed is their motive. I hope they make better platforms that treat people like real people, rather than numbers.
