Steemit Marketing Idea - 10,000 Flyers (Brainstorming Session, Please Help Out)

in growth-ideas •  7 years ago  (edited)

This is a low-cost idea that will help get the word out about Steemit to thousands of potential new users. I would like us to design several 8.5 x 11 flyers that can be printed out and hung up in coffee shops, book stores, colleges, etc. Once the designs are done, users can pick their favorite one(s), print off a few color copies at their local print store (should be less than $1 per color copy, and 10 cents for B&W) and then hang them up in their local areas. I would like to set the goal of having 10,000 flyers printed out and hung up by the end of July.

What do you think? Can we do it?

Phase 1:

Brainstorm what would be good to include in the flyers.

Phase 2:

I will host a contest for the artists and graphic designers of the community to put together the flyers. My budget for this will be ~300 STEEM. 100 STEEM will be awarded to the 'best', 50 STEEM to the two runners up, and 10 STEEM to anyone who submitted a reasonable quality entry, even if it wasn't selected.

Phase 3:

Everyone should 'go crazy' and print off a bunch to hang up in their local areas. The flyers will be posted as .jpeg and .pdf for users to download and print.

Commence Phase 1 -

Please comment with your suggestions on what would be good to include in the flyers!

  • What are good ways to grab attention?
  • What do we want to say?
  • What are good themes?
  • What are good 'catch phrases'?
  • Are there any specific facts or pieces of information that would be good to include?
  • Are there any good images to include?
  • What should the layout look like?
  • Etc.

I am very INTO this and as a Graphic Designer I will be submitting a entry as well! Cant wait. I got so many ideas already.
"It Pays To Steemit"
"Dont Just Write About It Steemit"
"Write - Post - Steemit"
"Because Your Idea Has Steem Power"
"No Power Like Steem Power"
I AM EXCITED if you cant TELL!?!?!?

Leaflet? Here I come!

Wow!!

It's funny how the low tech method may be quite effective. I've found that people are so used to being bombarded with email that they actually welcome a postcard in the mail or a flyer... old school works sometimes.

What do you think about "STEEM will power the future"?

I like it :)

I envision the concept of a bank vault or an ATM machine with STEEM dollars giving away tokens or spewing it out into a crowd of people or like a social media jackpot Casino style.

Nice idea! I'm a graphic designer and I will certainly submit a entry. We might also need an option to translate the flyers in the native language of the user.

Cool! Really great idea.

Ok, so I had this idea come to me while I was delivering my book donation with the bookmarks I made by doing a Steemgig. I was going to offer much less then you though to make the flyers so its nice your doing this. You have more power to work with then a minnow like me :) !! But my plan was to do this through a steemgig/contest to create the best flyer. Implementing the mascot I am currently running a contest to create, into a flyer (with the best pitch in one page that can be made.) You can see the entrants in the #postartchallenge tag, the contest is still going on for about a week. The goal of the post art challenge is to encourage people to make Steemit inspired page spacers, and Steemit logo challenges, stuff to create new steemit art, for people to incorporate into their posts and to use advertising on other platforms. From steem users, for steem users.

As well as the good consumer psychology advice I found here , Where the decision was to move away from the word "blog" (which is an intimidating word for average people) to 'post.vote.get paid' .. In order to help create the pitch.

But after the flyers were done being created. I was going to have a new steemgig. Offering to pay people an undecided amount of SBD's to go out and hang flyers. Then take pictures and post them on steemit as proof, and then I was going to pay those people for completing the steemgig. Wouldn't cost me much money and it would incentivise the spreading of the flyers.

There are so many projects, we needs to somehow get them all together to share resources and exchange ideas. Like how did I just find out about this post today. No buenos.

Anyway hope some of this helps. I am on discord and steemitchat if you ever need any help sir. Also reading through the comments, I like the idea of giving them something for coming. maybe not a certain amount of steem just for joining. But in the flyer, you could send them to some certain steemit link that could be a landing page for flyer initiates. and we could figure out somehow to help them enjoy the platform.. I think giving them an upvote when they actually post thats worth 2$ will energize them more then just getting 2$ for showing up (although, maybe not initially now that I read that) .. Anyways, what you are doing is awesome. I hope to be a quarter as beneficial as you one day haha

Cool, thanks a lot for your input. I'll let you know if there's anything you can do to help.

Hi @timcliff, as I mentioned on steem chat I'd like to put forward one of the flyers we have done for promo-uk. This seems to be the most popular one so far. It is designed to include the branding for Steemit whilst having the most popular topics on there to help grab interest.

Awesome, thanks!

In advertising, words like "You", "Your", and "Free" are very powerful.

It would be a good idea to include those power-words in the flyer.

Thanks, I hope it is a success!

Good tips - Thanks!

I love the old school approach of spreading the word through flyers. Count me in Tim! :D

"Join the New World Order - At Steemit, We're Changing the World for the Better!"
"Meet the NEW Social Network!"
"STEEM Power Your Community"
"Steemit - Where Your Word Matters!"
"Come for the rewards, stay for the community!"
"Create Your Own World at Steemit!"

This is a great idea. I too will print out a stack of whatever the final design(s) ends up being. Any idea that helps spread useful information about #steem or any cryptocurrency, I am game for!

I will say conveying that you can make money doing the same thing you do on other social media sites should be part of the pitch. Just need a catchy way to say it in a handful of words.

Then also a focus on the sub cultures of this community. Go after all the musicians out there. All the cooking enthusiasts, etc.

Whatever the wonderful artists of steemit come up with I will print out a put around all my RE networking events. I get a nice Office depot discount on print supplies so 100 flyers is economical still.

Awesome!

There's a lot of interest in bitcoin, but people don't know how to earn or buy it. I tell them they can post and comment on a website kinda like facebook and earn cryptocurrency. People are receptive to that idea. @ironshield

That's a good idea!

The flyer should be simple, yet drive home the point "why give away likes/shares for free" . "earn money while having fun" is a good way to attract the masses. and yes, it could be great to have a signup bonus (say 1SBD).
Steem On!
Steem - the revolutionary new social media site!

All the best, and wish you success with this initiative!

Whilst there's definitely value in Advertising (such as flyers in coffee shops) there are a number of other ways to market the benefits of Steemit to a wider potential audience. I'm sure Steemit's marketing team are taking care of the inbound marketing aspect. But we could help increase their reach on social media. Just a few status updates, likes and shares a week on other platforms could see the reach multiply by thousands. I'd suggest posting about Steemit on your own networks if you haven't already.

For sure :) I agree grassroots / word of mouth is the most effective way of advertising. This is meant to be in addition to that.

I will put in something really catchy something like " Earn while you write ", and stress the fact that the potentially payout is even better than you write a column in newspaper and ofcourse you get the fun side within the social media platform. What else it couldnt offer you to join and start involving?

Good idea, I think it will fly!

haha, good one ;)

love this, can't wait to see what folks come up with!!

Amazing Idea! Well done!!

I am by no means an artist or a marketing specialist, but I think it would be a good idea to have Steemit big on the flyer so that it draws attention and then a very simple and clear explanation of what Steemit is. I have seen a few posts on here where people explain Steemit for newbies very well. I know this would be effective in a college setting, I have done many flyers at my school. I also would imagine this may work well outside a grocery store, with someone handing these out and helping people signup.

I think this is a great idea! Cheers mate and Steem on!

I like telling friends and family about it. If they trust you, then they will trust what you say. I love the idea of printing too. Well done.

Great idea, Tim! I have just finished my "Would you like to follow me poster?". I stuck with the steemit theme on this one. I will have to think about other designs.

Cool :)

Thanks Tim

Good thing. Well, if we are to promote, Shouldn't we also consider online promotion?

Because, as it seems, not much people are aware of this platform. It got a quick popularity over the last year, but it has to grab more attention. Yes, the graphical design thing seems cool. But, maybe we can use that offline+online too. :)

I'm working on an online campaign as well using this post:
https://steemit.com/steemit/@timcliff/you-should-join-steemit-here-is-why

Yeah, saw. cool :)

feels like a good ideea!

Great idea! Upvoted and followed. I modified someone else's image, and made some business cards from it. I'm not necessarily submitting it, just sharing what I did:

Post your blog. Earn. It's that simple., flyer to hand out to increase Steem membership, 1 of them, 2017-06-24 Sat.png

Cool

An idea could be having a STEEM value in the flyer like a reward redemption coupom. The new user could post a picture holding the flyer as a proof to redeem the value. Congratulations and good luck again!

This Flyer maybe can include FREE 5-10 STEEM only available for NEW sign ups with redemption or referral code.

I'd help put these up around Miami!

great idea
i ll be the part of the contest
according to me the title of the flyer should be like "Steemit - Join Hands with us"
join-our-hands-together.jpg

Nice post! Thanks. Please follow me: @martinst

I like this idea. A ninja grass roots movement!
Here is a saying.
"Why waste time on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Reddit when you can make money on Steemit?"

Steemit is like Shamwow it sells itself

I'm in metro Detroit area, i'm sure there's some interest around here. Steem on!

Hey @timcliff, let's get in touch again.

upvote and resteem :P @timcliff

Great ideas!!!

I have made 2 flyers. now i am working on an ad-video for steemit. after that i wanted to make another flyer for steemit. i have already an idea for the next one. if you want, we can be in touch for further works @timcliff

Yes. You should submit the flyers when I create the post for phase 2.

What about business cards with a QR code on them with a Steem private key and a small explanation?

Interesting idea, but private key? Seems like a security risk.

Well I am not 100% certain if the Steem system works exactly like other cryptos do, but assuming it does, you would simply load a small amount of Steem on the card in order to give the recipient incentive to try the system out. Considering it is not a lot, I think the security risk is limited.

I see.. Well you would need to pre-select their account name for them, which most people wouldn't like. You'd need 6 STEEM to setup the account based on the current account creation fee, but it would be locked up in STEEM Power. The only way they could get it out would be to start using the site and earn enough additional SP to pass the threshold to be able to power down. (fairly complicated..) Getting them to sign up for a 'free' account through Steemit.com pretty much accomplishes the same thing, except then they get a chance to chose their username. They also don't need to worry about whoever gave them the account also having access to their private keys.

Yes but STEEM is transferable... I imagine it has its own private key independent of the username... I don't mean the private keys issued upon account creation, I mean the private key that validates the STEEM monetary token.

It's a cool idea, but I think the costs and complexities of doing it outweigh the benefits. Better to just get people to sign up for a free account, which comes pre-loaded with some SP.

Could we speed up the sign in process with a Code on the flyer?

So far you have to wait several days as a random person for a new steemit account. Some users might be to impatient to sign up or they think the platform istn working.

Unless users are willing to pay their own account creation fee (which I would not recommend for trying to recruit new users) then they must be validated by Steemit before Steemit will pay their account creation fee.

I don't think that a waiting list is as bad as people think. In a way, it makes the platform feel more special.

If you cant wait a week you wont use it for a year.

I Like your Idea. Things do need to Change since YouTube censors way to much great Content..........

i am really into this idea.!

You should definitely talk to @stephenkendal who's been handing out flyers in Manchester! :)

Most definitely! I do think it a great idea tho. The reason I asked was earlier on google images I saw a file someone created where the Steem logo was disrespecting FB, IG & several others

I'd prefer to avoid bashing other platforms and just stick to why we are awesome :)

I agree there's a lot of awesomeness packaged in Steemit & its a privilege with pay as you play for performance.... :) Thanks for always replying as well. VotedUp Resteemed

Do you like anything like this?

"Wasting too much time mindlessly scrolling through Facebook and Instagram? Get started on Steemit... smart social media that pays you. The future is now."
Then maybe just the logo and link centred at the bottom with text done in dark blue.

Cool idea

#steemgig it ;-)

Good call - will do!

Here is a tutorial how to set-up one!

This is great. I've been inviting people to Steemit ever since I joined 2 days ago.

Hey Tim does the design have to be all original or can it consist of other stuff like our competitions logos, slogans, etc?

We should probably avoid anything that might be considered copyright infringement.

Okay...let me think....give me a time...! Nice idea @timcliff. :)
