¿How Much Do You Know About Delay?
Many have asked me about the effects I use and in this post I will tell you about my experience on this effect pedal ... One of the most interesting effects in the arsenal of any guitarist, and to which many of the beginning do not seem to lend too much Attention, it is undoubtedly the delay. The delay is first a repetition effect a little delayed to simulate an echo effect, this is repeated again and again depending on the given parameters, which can beautify our timbre by providing spatiality, to radically experimental uses in search of atmospheric sounds or directly Martians, going through the pragmatism of fattening our sound.
In the market there are now countless brands of both analog and digital delays that can fit your need as a guitarist, this effect I use it basically to give dimension, character and a little enhancement to the solos. In general this type of effects brings 4 essential parameters, one is the volume, another of repetitions or "feeback", time and modulation ... In the case of volume is the amount of effect that we want to apply to the signal of the guitar, repetitions or feeback will be the amount of repetitions that will generate our effect, in the case of time we could define it as the duration that will have our effect usually is usually at the tempo of the song that we are playing on the other hand the modulation usually depends on the type of delay we want to use.
The delay usually I use discreet, but when I'm going to play a solo it will depend on the sound I'm looking for, in the case of wanting to play a solo by the guitarist David Gilmour we must set the delay at very high volume to generate that feeling of atmosphere characteristic of their solos. When playing with such an excited delay they have to play very slowly with many spaces so that the note bounces and its execution is not spliced. Also the delay has creative options if you like the most alternative sounds you can set your delay to a longer time in which you can harmonize each one of your notes of the scale, this could be one of the many forms that the you can play with this effect.
There are also other ways to use the delay adjusting the repetitions at a time of 480 milli-seconds playing notes and expect to repeat it alone, simultaneously we must go down and up the volume of our guitar (knob) letting it repeat and bounce alone which gives a violin effect by doing that correctly. Personally the delay for me is an indispensable effect when playing due to the atmosphere that creates it, which moves the listener to another climax through pleasant sensations to the ear that is helpful for both parties when playing.
