¿How Much Do You Know About The Overdrive?
To understand briefly what an overdrive is and what its function is, we must first know where it comes from, its English translation "Overdrive" is an overload used in music mainly in genres such as the rock normally used in electric guitars to equip them of a more characteristic sound and a certain richness in modern popular music. An overdrive works in a very similar way to a Booster, it increases the volume of the signal to help the amplifier reach its sound limit and get that distorted sound that they like so much.
In the market today there are countless brands of analog and digital overdrivers that can adapt to your need as a guitarist, this effect I use it basically to achieve the characteristic color of my sound, it is a bit different from the distortion since the distortion produces a much higher saturation but speaking specifically of the overdrive does not produce those loads so great in most cases is a bit softer and even many people use the overdrive with the distortions of the amplifiers as a booster to simply raise the level, like for the solos and thus achieve a harmonic and volume enhancement.
The overdrive when using it without any distortion, has a very warm sound, very clear, it allows us to make chords and understand the harmonic part that often does not distinguish with distortion. Now, already understanding a little the role played by this pedal in the chain of effects as guitarists in this post I will explain a little the operation of it and use that I give as a guitarist, in my case the overdrive I use is the SD- 1 Super Overdrive which is one of the most economical on the market which has been used by great musicians and presents the basic parameters of an overdrive.
The idea of talking a little about this overdrive is not to assess the characteristics of this pedal in specific but how to realize the parameters of an overdrive and apply this to any brand, basically this pedal has 3 knobs that include: Level, which we do with the really is to place a volume intensity for the pedal, in the world of tubes this is very associated with the gain, many times when using this pedal the sound can make a significant leap in volume, with this we can minimize this situation , in the case of the Drive we could define it as the amount of saturation that we use for our signal or of additional impulse that is wanted to give the amplifier, finally we have the Tone that is a control of general EQ that allows to adjust the sound. Personally, what I like a lot about this overdrive is that the sound does not stop being natural, it does not lose dynamics when playing soft or loud, it feels ...
