I'm more into the Scandinavian stuff like Insomnium, Dark Tranquillity, Amorphis....
Sure there are some good German Metal Bands but most of them aren't really authentic... sometimes Germans tend to get plasticy in there sound or stuff. Not only in Metal.
But a good German Band worth checking out is Disillusion.

Sure i saw Amon Amarth 4 times live.
I really admired Children of Bodom back in the early 2000s.
Saw them the first Time back in 1999.
But the went pretty downhill in recent years.
