It's not illegal to manufacture guns and ammo.

This is a direct, pointed message to everybody who thinks that we should roll back laws which provide "immunities" to gun and ammunition manufacturers from lawsuits.

What you're suggesting isn't just a reaction that you're having based on lies and ignorance. What you're suggesting isn't just clearly going to be ineffective. What you're suggesting isn't logically coherent if you think about it for two seconds.

What you're suggesting is utterly immoral.

I can't help but think of the famous scene in Robert Bolt's play A Man for All Seasons in which one character, William Roper, is demanding that Sir Thomas More file a complaint to the authorities against a man that all parties agreed was less than scrupulous. More challenged Roper, "You would cut a path through the law to get at the Devil." Roper said that he would cut down every law in England to get at the Devil. More's response was, "...and when the Devil turns 'round to face you, where will you turn for protection?" More went on to say, "Yes, I will give the Devil the benefit of law, for my own safety's sake."

If you're not getting the point yet, let me explain.

Really, if you believe in government - which I don't but 99% of you do - it can't be made illegal to manufacture guns because you need to arm the military and the police.

Even under the law of our land, gun manufacturers can be sued. If injuries are inflicted due to a gun or a bullet doing something that it's not supposed to do, you can sue. The settlement reached in the lawsuit against Remington was based on a frivolous argument about Remington's advertising which has zero relation to the actual shooting and, if we were to make it illegal for Remington to advertise in certain ways, that would make it a First Amendment issue.

Basically, any one of you who wants to create an open season on gun and ammo manufacturers to be sued whenever some asshat uses their product to do something evil is trying to cut a path through the law to get at your Devil. There's a tyranny - a Lavrenty Beria mindset - behind cutting paths through the law in order to hold the sword of Damocles (albeit not over the heads of people in power) over people who have worked within the law.

It's not only that your activism is based on false pretenses. It's not just that manufacturers have almost nothing to do with distribution - Colt didn't directly vet me when I bought my revolver because that's not their job. It's not only that most of you love the murder, theft, and rape machines that we call "governments" and you want them to be armed while the same companies that arm those machines, in your mind, should be sued into oblivion for providing arms for the rest of us. It's that you want to create a nation that is so dictatorial and oppressive and evil that you can't even be safe from the law if you operate within her stated rules.
