How many gun crimes are committed with legally obtained guns?

Whatever your thoughts on gun control, you likely know your lines.  When the press reports a mass shooting you either immediately begin to defend gun rights or start asking for gun control.

Personally, I am tired of the same old dialogue and am wanting some real information.

How many gun crimes a year are committed with legally obtained guns?

When they say common sense gun control, what does that mean and how will they define common sense when there are no facts established around the topic?

The most painful question of all...  What is a reasonable level of causalities?  If it is zero there is no hope in site.

Keep in mind around 30,000 people a year are killed by guns and that includes accidents, police shootings, suicides and crime.  While everyone would like this number to be lower it is actually already lower than national drowning deaths.

The gun violence argument has it's own economy and lobbyists despite not being in the top 10 causes of death in the US.

Every Mass Shooting/Killing leaves us with a sense of horror and powerlessness.  Nice how the media always steps up to give us something to focus the argument on.

Seems to me it would be helpful to study gun violence and discuss the issue with facts vs. feelings...

Let's call for facts and a reasonable discussion.

This playing-out of political roles seems to happen after every mass shooting, like it's part of the program. It has occurred after incidents in Aurora, Colo., and Newtown, Conn., and San Bernardino, Calif., and Orlando. On and on.But one reason the positions are so intractable is that no one really knows what works to prevent gun deaths. Gun-control research in the United States essentially came to a standstill in 1996.After 21 years, the science is stale.“In the area of what works to prevent shootings, we know almost nothing,” Mark Rosenberg, who, in the mid-1990s, led the CDC's gun-violence research efforts, said shortly after the San Bernardino shooting in 2015.

What do you think about debating a topic we literally have no information to support?

Really good question but it's a big big business as oils so it will be really really difficult to erase because you always will find offer on roads. Regards

As bad as the firearms death-rate is in the United States, things could be much worse:

This is the $64,000 question. What to do? Stricter laws and background checks for gun buyers. Yes. However the underlying problem isn't addressed which is that these people are mentally imbalanced. How to screen them so they can't buy guns and then how to help them. That is the ultimate solution.

Also, a statistic: 60% of adult deaths by guns in the U.S. is from suicide. That to me is very morbid. People need to change; grow; evolve; and be happy with oneself.

An excellent article and a good question, but I think that it makes no sense to simply count the number, it is necessary to prohibit legalization and to tighten the responsibility for weapons. We can say that it is strict, but there will be a result. Thank you @whatsup

@whatsup,
Every country have military and police to secure people and the mother land! So, I don't think civilians need to keep guns to secure their personals! It also reveal that police and other securities are not good enough to secure civilians! As a result such crimes happens! Better stop issuing guns to civilian! And better police and other security agencies work better to make all safe!

Cheers~

Something came to mind after reading this article , create the problem, control the reaction, and present the solution ! For decades Hollywood(CIA) has been saturating our children with glorified shoot them up movies , not good movies about respecting life and others ?, Gee that's weird ? Remember grandpas rifle over the fireplace ?, Kids back then where not killing with them, why are they now ?
I would say the 2nd amendment is the only right we have left, maybe that's why the government is attacking it vigorously !

Very well said, I couldnt agree more.

I think we need to change the permission to sell weapons first of all to strengthen the medical conclusion on the adequacy of the person.

I learnt about the attacks in texas. May their souls rest in peace.

Whether gun debate or not, something needs to be done about this regular mass shooting in America, because it is not making the country look good at all.
