The hilarious lunacy of gun-free zones

You know if you want people to obey the law you have to make a sign, right? Well the gun-free zone sign is one that has always made me chuckle and outside of large metro areas in North Carolina, these sings almost don't exist at all because of the mockery that would be made of them and anyone who ordered they be put up.

The thing about guns and what makes them dangerous is the hands in which those guns happen to be in. Myself and all of the people I know that are gun owners (which are most of the people I know) have never been shot or harmed by our own firearms because we don't go around shooting at people willy nilly and we also respect the weapons and realize that they must be treated with extreme care. I don't even know anyone that has had a near incident with one.

Injuries and accidental death aside, the notion of a sign preventing criminals from bringing guns into an area is completely absurd. There are of course consequences for bringing a gun into a gun-free zone but the only people that are ever going to suffer from this are the people who actually obey laws.

In North Carolina there are a few places where guns are never allowed such as banks. I've always found this to be especially stupid as well because if a criminal is going to rob a bank, they are not going to concern themselves with the fact that having a gun in there is also illegal. Who the hell came up with this stupid piece of legislature and advertising. Is it supposed to make people feel safer that guns will only be in the hands of people who definitely don't care about laws? It doesn't make me feel that way. I like Christian Slater's character, Clarence Worley, statement in the epic movie True Romance when he says "I would rather have a gun and not need it than need it and not have it."

A friend of mine sent this Babylon Bee article headline and while I didn't read the actual article, I found it very amusing. When are the idiots out there going to realize that criminals don't care about most laws and they sure as hell don't care about a sign that tells them they aren't allowed to do something.

I'm happy to live in a state that has what I consider to be sensible gun ownership laws and rather lax restrictions. I could still do without the silly gun-free zones though, because the only people that are going to adhere to that is the type of person that obeys laws. The criminals may actually look at the sign as an indication of an easy target.
