Time for the winners!
Wonderful entries, everyone. It was even tougher picking winners this time that last time. So I did what any indecisive judge does—I delayed a few days.
But now it's Monday, a few days after the contest ended, I have been thinking about the entries since, and I finally have a ranking.
Oh, before giving the winners, I also want to mention that I haven't replied to any comments up to this point because I wanted to avoid reading any of the entries until after the contest. I will reply to all of you now, after posting this.
Anyway, on with the winners!
Special Mention
@carolkean with her wonderful ku:
ladybug on my laptop
you must go
but not out into the snow
Yes, Carol, this is a haiku, and a wonderful one! So wonderful that I wanted to bend the contest rules (that you should post the haiku in the comments) and recongize it. Very well done.
Runner-Up #1
@tinypaleokitchen, with a delightful ku:
Stacked high
safe haven
for frozen wings
Runner-up #2
@tygertyger with "A talented child"
Let me sleep
wings dream of future
life transformed
3rd Place
@diebitch, with one that reminds me of my son's talking before bed every night:
Moon shines on
spider in my head
hiding monsters under bed
2nd Place
@jayo, with this nod towards Japanese mythology:
Bugs scuttling
The winter breeze
Brings the shriek of the yuki-onna
1st Place
@holothewise, with this wonderful sketch of life scene (shasei):
ice drips
from a chrysalis...
first spring wind
Thank You!
Congratulations winners. I will send your prizes as soon as I finish this post. And thank you everyone for entering! All of you wrote really good small poems! I will post contest #3 sometime soon—I hope all of you will enter again!
Congrats to the winners, and to @carolkean for the special mention. Her haiku included photos of her bug struggles as well. Nothing like bug pictures to make it all the more real!
