Haiku of Japan :: The First 100

in haiku •  6 years ago  (edited)

This is an index post for my first 100 haiku translations published on Steemit. Mainly I am doing this so that I can just include one link in the footer of each haiku post instead of many, but also this might be a good reference for anyone who enjoys haiku.

First a straight list of all 100 haiku as well as the ten collection posts. After that, a sorting by haiku poet, then a sorting by season. Sound fun? Let's go!

Haiku Poets

*: This one is by Tawarabo, a satirical writer in the Edo period. He was mocking Basho. But ironically it is often credited to Basho when it appears these days. Go figure.

By Season

Note: In the old Japanese calendar New Years was the beginning of Spring. Technically it is still considered a Spring kigo. Yet because it comes in the middle of winter in the modern calendar, many or most haiku publications and poets these days think of it as a separate "season".

There are a few other ways I can think of to organize these haiku, but we'll leave it at that. Better ways to format things too, I'm sure. Simple lists aren't ideal, but what then? Tables? Too time-consuming to do well. But if you have any suggestions, I am willing to edit this post or repost it later. Let me know.

Anyway, so ends the index of my first 100 Steemit haiku translations. Maybe I'll put them into a book one of these days, or a pdf for people who support me on Patreon or something. But at any rate, hope you enjoyed them. Though my haiku translations have dwindled to about one every week or two, I still intend to keep doing them, so stay tuned for more!

Let me know your favorites in the comments. These days I am in love with the idea of @steembasicincome, so I may randomly decide to sponsor good commenters for a share or two ;)
