Happy Halloween

Yes, I know it’s not the 31st of October today but for me and my son, it’s Halloween whenever he wants. Haha. My 3.5 year old boy is obsessed with all things scary and related to Halloween and his favorite is undoubtedly the ‘Jack-O-Lantern.’ He loves zombies, witches, vampires, draculas and ghosts equally too but he loves this scary pumpkin a tad bit more may be. He has been asking me to make him one for a long time but sometimes I couldn’t find the time to work on this task and the other times, I couldn’t find a pumpkin in a local market.

A few days back while I was shopping some veggies, I spotted some lovely pumpkins. Since we don’t eat them much, I have never bought them. However, when I spotted a pumpkin, I recalled my son’s wish to carve him a jack-o-lantern. He was with me in the market so I asked him if he wanted to make him one and happily he said yes.

I bought the smallest pumpkin I could see there. Since I had never carved a pumpkin before, I found it best not to waste a big pumpkin if I couldn’t carve it nicely so it was wise to get a small one. We took it home, cleaned it nicely and then began the process. Here’s what we did next.

I cut a chunk off its top and put it aside. Then I scooped out most of the flesh and de-seeded the pumpkin.

Next, I googled some jack-o-lantern photos and asked my son to pick one. I copied its features on our pumpkin and drew them with a marker. Then I carved the entire pumpkin.

Next, I lit a candle and put it inside and we had our jack-o-lantern in front of us.
