In this world, there is no one that can truthfully profess to be happy all the time. At some point, even those that appear to always be happy will admit to having felt sadness or disappointment during their lives. In fact, for most people, their lives are a mixture of happiness and sadness.
This cyclical emotional state is due to the karmas we have sown in our previous lives. For merit (good) karmas we have reaped in our previous life, favorable circumstances unfold causing us happiness. Conversely, as a direct consequence of the demerit (bad) karma, we have forged in our previous life, unfavorable circumstances take place causing us misery and unhappiness.
The ways in which the karmas of your previous life unfold in this life and affect your happiness are of three forms:
Physical well-being
If any part of your body is hurting or you are suffering from pain, e.g. headache or toothache, or if you incur an injury.
Mental
If you have any type of worries, fears, stress, anxiety, depression, or tiredness resulting from unmet expectations or from emotions of anger, pride, deceit, or greed.
Uncontrollable factors
If inexplicably you are the subject of harassment, loss of financial wealth, or if a loved one becomes ill.
It is because there is no escaping the consequences of the actions of your previous life, that happiness in this life is always temporary and short-lived for all people.
However, permanent happiness does exist!
The only source of permanent happiness lies in the realization of who you really are! The Soul is distinct from our body and ego. Knowing your true Self will result in a constant inner bliss and lead to Moksha (liberation)
Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan, an enlightened being explains: [The] Soul is endowed with bliss! One himself is Soul, no one else can take its happiness away from him. One is free of all pain and suffering by nature; he has tremendous (powerful) grandeur (splendor)! How can any misery affect him!
Thus, the Soul is the abode of infinite bliss. It is completely independent of worldly circumstances and thus when you realize your true Self, you become aware of the body experiencing sadness or happiness but internally you are imbued in a state of constant bliss.
This feeling of absolute bliss never increases or decreases. It is the body (which you realize is not your true Self) that experiences pain, suffering, worries, stress, happiness, or joy. In contrast, the Self is devoid of any emotion as a result of anger, deceit, pride, or greed. The Soul never has attachment or abhorrence towards anyone or anything. It just remains in its inherent nature of the Self which is to know and see only.
How do I realize my true Self: The Soul?
You can only become Self-realized by a Gnani Purush who has been endowed with such a gift to enable you to realize yourself as a pure Soul.
Today, Pujya Shree Deepakbhai guided and blessed by Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan travels worldwide, endowing people with Self-realization through a special 50-minute ceremony called the “Gnan Vidhi”.
