Disabled and homeless

Its not right that people who cannot find easy employment and accommodation due to disabilities are living on the streets.

We live in a wealthy country and should look after the most vulnerable.
Those who can work should work but those who need help should get it. Its hard to find who needs help and who doesn't when people are pretending or acting out about not working.

However for those who are out there living rough should get help.

I posted about food banks a few weeks ago. Although these are great I don't think they go far enough.

The likes of these big supermarkets could easily have a gift card system instead of food banks.

A food bank is run by volunteers and are rarely open for longer than a few hours a week. With a gift card that gives a family a set amount of food a week, could change the way we help people.

Instead of donating tins and non perishable goods we could simply push a button that says donate X amount.
Then this money is put into food cards that allow the user to get a hamper from the supermarket. This hamper can include fresh goods as well as the traditional products. Sanitary ware and personal hygiene products inset quantities relative to the families size.

Then all the family needs to do is sign for a card and to to the supermarket. No more hiding a big box that you have just got from a church of community hall. No one needs to know that that card you just used was because your family needs help this week and without it children and working adults may not eat.
