Pinang has the name of the region such as pineng, pineung (pinda), pinang (Gayo), stem mayang (Karo), pining (Toba), pinang (Minangkabau), and jambe (Sunda, Java).

Pinang plants are classified in the spermatophyta division, angiospermae sub division, monocotyledonae class, arecales nation, arecaceae / palmae tribe, areca clan, and Areca catechu L type.

Betel nut seeds contain alkaloids, such as arecolin (C8 H13 NO2), arecolitin, arecaine, guvakolin, guvasine and isoguvasine, condensed tannins, hydrolyzed tannins, flavan, phenolic compounds, gallic acid, sap, lignin, oils evaporate and not harvest, pinang contains proantosianidin, a condensed tannin belonging to the flavonoid group. Proanthocyanidin has an antibacterial, antiviral effect. anticarcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and vasodilatory.
