Increasing Hash Rate and Reducing Power Consumption

in hashrate •  4 years ago

This is another article in the series where I share my experience with new miners. Last time we talked about operating system setup and mining software configuration; Today, we will learn about video card overclocking, which is used to increase hash rate and reduce power consumption.

What is Overclocking?
We can increase the performance of the processor, RAM and other hardware components by using special software. However, it only makes sense to deal with video cards in GPU mining. Actually, it means changing AMD card timings, voltage, and frequency of core and memory. Let's take a look at how it's done on Windows and Hive OS!

The Dangers of Overclocking
Before we begin, I should warn you that manufacturers generally do not support hardware overclocking. Even if you have a custom model suitable for overclocking, its operation may be somewhat limited. Therefore, we will use "unconventional" overclocking methods that will void your warranty, so be careful: incorrect settings can turn your device into a piece of garbage. Proceed at your own risk.

By the way, devices suitable for overclocking are generally more resistant to failed attempts: you can always revert to the default settings! Non-overclocked devices can only be reset with the help of some special equipment.
