Anthuriums aren't native to Hawaii, but they are very prevalent these days. Red is known to be the standard color for anthuriums but today there are many different colors and varieties that have either been genetically engineered or naturally mixed. You will see green, orange, white, pink, multi-colored, etc. In the top picture you can see a red and green variety in the forefront. In the bottom picture you can see a pink and green variety in the forefront and a dark purple variety in the middle.
The anthurium flower when cut, is known to last a long time if you keep the stems in fresh water. You will see many of them in hospitals or at grave sites because of this fact. On the Big Island of Hawaii, there are farmers who grow and sell anthurium flowers and potted plants locally and on the mainland. The flower is very popular.
