3 people died in a Tour Helicopter crash into Oneawa Street in Kailua a heavily populated residential area. I will not talk about the details of the crash in which two tourists perished. The focus of this post is the practice of these tour helicopters flying low over residential areas.
At our Tiny House on the Big Island of Hawaii we have helicopters fly over the area very low. We are not nearly as populated as Oneawa St on Oahu, however, we see no reason the helicopters need to fly over the homes when the ocean is so close.
Some time we have are drones up in the air and a helicopter comes whizzing by. It is so dangerous.
As I wrote about other practices I am concerned about how business in the tourists industry are pushing the limits. They are fighting for the tourist dollars trying to create an experience that differentiates it from others. They are now taking unnecessary risks and in some cases pushing or breaking the law.
If the company involved in this accident did something improper I hope the authorities come down hard on them.
