Invasive ginger on KilaueasteemCreated with Sketch.

The first time I visited Kilauea, I loved the kahili ginger. It's fragrant and beautiful. And it's everywhere on the mountain. When they're blooming, it's lovely to see. However, since then, I've learned that they're an invasive species. They're very aggressive in taking over territory and are crowding out the native plants. Efforts to control the spread of ginger are only keeping them at bay. It is a good example of a beautiful plant that just doesn't belong.

Aloha from the 3rd coast of South Texas and welcome to Steemit. I just visited The big island back in March and loved it. I hope to return again soon. Looking forward to seeing more images as you continue to Steem on.

Thanks! The big island is for sure worth a few trips. Somewhere on the coast of Texas is on my list of places I'd like to visit next. But I don't know exactly where to go, because it's just so big.

I live in Corpus Christi. It used to be a nice place but lately it just looks like a landfill. Corpus is the end of the road. Nothing to do and nowhere to go. Nothing but miles and miles of beach. If you make it this way I'd recommend visiting the Padre Island National Seashore just to get as far away as possible from people. The beach is nice down there. You can drive down a few miles on the beach and pretty much have the place to yourself. South Padre is a lot more touristy with a lot more restrained, motels, shops, and the like. Here is an image of where I woke up after returning from Hawaii. I parked the car and slept right there on the beach. It was nice to be back home in the sand. padre sunrise.jpg
