Many people do not realize that they have hypertension. Because of high blood pressure, they do not experience headaches or pain in the neck, and feel their condition is fine.
"This is why we should regularly check blood pressure, at least once a year," said Consultant of the Singapore Health Clinic Association, Dr Ian Phoon, as quoted from the Health XChange SG website on Monday, May 28, 2018.
Ian, warned, high blood pressure or hypertension is a silent killer that increases the risk of stroke, heart disease, and other serious health complications if left alone.
This hypertension problem can take the lives of patients at any time.
Hypertension in Singapore
In Singapore alone, Ian said, based on data from the Health Promotion Board that high blood pressure affects more than half of the population there aged 60 years and over.
In fact, arguably Singaporeans have an active lifestyle. However, the effects of food paralyze their health.
Not only the elderly, one in five patients aged 18 has a blood pressure of about 140/90 mmHg.
Do not Underestimate Hypertension
Ian advised not to underestimate the problem of high blood pressure or hypertension. If you have a tool to check your blood pressure at home, check regularly and record the results.
According to Ian, blood pressure varies throughout the day. "Taking note of pressure at different times will allow doctors to see our average blood pressure," Ian said.
Show the note every time you visit your doctor.
