Bianca's Weight Loss Journey: The Bittersweet of a Weightloss Journey [ Part 10 ]

I've been dedicating myself to a better life over 9 weeks now, eating way healthier than before, exercising with consistency and meditating became my new habbit.

Last Sunday we had a burger session with friends as you can see in this post from @exyle, but the hard truth is, my mouth loves it, my body complains about it. It just feels too much! Besides that, the next day feels so tiring, like I have a hangover. That's a sign of changes!
It has done wonders, and I'm honestly happy, this shows me I am actually going somewhere, and there I wish to stay forever.

BUT IT TAKES SO MUCH TIME!

I can notice the changes in my clothes, they fit much better than one month ago. I remember when I went to London in August, I bought a pair of jeans and that was sooo tight it made me regret buying them. So few weeks ago I tried them again, and voilà, it fits! And now they are even a bit loose. Man, THAT is a good feeling!

What is not a good feeling is expecting people are going to jaw-drop when they see me, saying how thiner I am. I expect this reaction all the time, every single day I am going to meet a friend. But guess what? Only three or four people has said something. It breaks me down, I am not gonna lie, it makes even more difcult to see myself in a different way. As much as I try to be positve, I can't pretend it's all perfect. I still look in the mirror and see the same old Bianca. But now I am trying to focus in what really matters.

WHAT REALLY MATTERS?

Yesterday I decided to do some changes in my meals.

1 - Eat fresh meals: instead of prep my meals like I was doing - and not enjoying eating it few days later at all - I am going to cut my vegetables and meat in the right portions, so I have everything measured to one person and I can cook it in 20min everyday.

2 - Replace the bad carbs: although I was already eating the "bad carbs" in a smaller portion, I decided to eat the better options instead. Pumpkin, sweet potatoes, brown rice, brown bread (this one I've been eating over 8 years already), chickpeas and cassava are my new options and I love them all. (my groceries in the picture above)

3 - Measure the food: I was just eating it randomly, now I measure each portion of everything. In the end my dish is still full, but this time with good options.

A friend of mine told me to focus on my goals and only my goals. She said "don't lean on a scale, mirror or peoples opinion, do it because your body deserves to be healthy". And she was right, isn't this what my journey is all about?

This journey is not perfect, but it is not impossible, I believe it and I will achieve it. In the meanwhile I'm getting to know myself, good food and nice exercises; so life, BRING IT ON!

Hey @bkdbkd just stumbled across this post and want to say that in the weightloss journey you're going to come across a lot of obstacles but the biggest one will be the mental battle you have with yourself! A couple years ago I was on a similar journey, I was never overweight but just wasn't happy with my body, a few tips I can offer (in kindness of course) would be..

  • It may take a while to see change but as long as you are consistent, you'll see change. Trying to change your body takes time because think how long it's taken your body to get to where it's at and now you're trying to undo it
  • Focus less on the scales (i.e. KGs) - as you exercise you'll gain some weight as you put on muscle and there will be a constant balance between losing fat/gaining muscle so a lower number on the scales it not always a true measure of progress. I would focus more on how you feel and look! I don't even look at the scales anymore :D
  • Your groceries and diet looks good so far but I would say try to add more dark, green leafy vegetables (kale, english spinach). A good rule I read was to have your plate with 2/3 vegetables and 1/3 protein. Obviously this requires a sensible size of protein, but this is a good rule and try to stick to non-starch vegetables and if you need to, eat sweet potato but double the size of that with other vegetables that are high in water but low in calories (the water will fill you up but not at the expense of a lot of calories)

Sorry for the super long post but I don't want to see you lose your way, you're doing great so far with 5KG already lost!! Amazing effort, keep it up. @phamished xx

Wow super thanks for this comment, I must say sometimes I avoid leaves, especially now that's getting cold. I'm also increasing my proteins with chickpeas and lentils. But I'm going to try all those tips definitely, thank you for the effort of helping as well, that's lovely!

You're welcome! Yeah don't worry I stayed away from greens too when it was cold, you can switch it up with steamed broccoli instead. I feel like the more vegetables you can eat with a high water % content vs starchy vegetables you'll probably see better progress but already your changes are working so keep on it...will be watching your journey!

So good to see you are still on this journey and being aware that it requires work and many tweaks to the plan to get something that you can stick to which works.

The only person who needs to see the changes is you, even though it's a nice boost to receive the compliments elsewhere - as long as you are feeling good and happy with your progress then that's the main thing.

I once read it something like 'it takes a month for you to notice, 3 months for your friends, and 6 months for the world' so you are well on track.

Keep going, both of you! :D

Yes! Heard the same, but I'll try to not think about compliments or people's reaction, because that's not the point, right?
But not giving up at all and that makes me happy! And many thanks!

Glad to here it! :D

Have a great day!

Nice one and wish you success in your weight loss journey

thanks!

I just started it yesterday, but with the old diet I have lost 5kg so far, just can't see the difference in the mirror.

As long as you see and feel the difference, it shouldn't matter if others don't notice or compliment you. You need to be happy with yourself. You are creating good new habits and that is what is important.

And you are totally right, sometimes we need to hear the obvious to focus on what matters. Many thanks!

these are the journeys that take some effort but that when you arrive at your destination all sweaty and out of breath make you realise that it was all worth it and that every step you took was one in the right direction... keep it up
